About v93r

For Gert Brantner a.k.a. v93r, music has been the most important thing for as long as he can remember.

Recorder, piano, classical guitar… then the first electric guitar bought with his own money at the age of twelve, bands, drums – mostly because nobody else could or wanted to play them – and eventually synths, drum machines, DAT recorders, digital delays and an Atari ST running Cubase.

When the Macintosh and a DAW that was actually usable finally arrived, v93r was born. The name comes from V’ger in Star Trek: The Motion Picture — and also works as a moniker for „Virtual.Ger(t)“.

Around 1996, Gert joined the experimental electronics group Farmers Manual and has remained a member ever since. He also ran the netlabel Bruit, later revived together with his brother Walter as bruitversum in 2018.

v93r describes himself as a „never take anything for granted“ musician and sound explorer. His taste is 110% eclectic, and he is always looking forward to listening to, creating, manipulating and releasing music of all kinds.

Did we mention that he’s a really nice guy, but totally batshit crazy when it comes to art?

The Mix

Muzichka 029 is very much in the same spirit — no particular interest in keeping things stylistically tidy.

It moves through dub, industrial electronics, broken beats, noise and modular experiments, mixing longtime favourites with more recent discoveries. Spectre Horsemen is here because Gert enjoys the dabbling in dub — and loves massive bells. DARKSTEP appeared after the surprisingly effective method of searching for „Darkstep“ one slow morning. DFKT appears twice, including an unreleased modular noise techno piece from an upcoming bruitversum release.

There is also Tomoroh Hidari – „one grandmaster of broken beats“, and sadly a huge loss to the music community – and a massive piece by DOCCULT built around Stanisław Lem’s Fiasco.

And then there is track 111: a mystery track you’ll have to guess. Gert liked the idea of hiding a small radio show inside a radio show – a portmanteau-radio show. He even left the chopped voice-ins in, because they’re funny.

No grand concept holding it all together. Just music picked by someone with a 110% eclectic taste and very little interest in taking anything for granted.
